Showing New Oil Paintings! the first ~~ Dark Pines on the Bay

Six art buddies and I are set to open a new month long exhibit next week. (Kick-off public reception on the 12th – details to follow. )  Have been crunching to do SEVEN new paintings for the show.  Here’s number one:

Doodles While Traveling

We flew to California for Christmas this year and, as usual, I occupied myself at the airports and in-air by some iPad doodling.  Thought it would be fun to share some of those from this and earlier flights with you.

New Paintings Over the Holidays

I squeezed in a few iPad paintings over the Christmas holiday.  My favorite is this sketch of son Sam and grandson Max relaxing over a new book.  I shared on Facebook & will add again below the little scribble I did of Max’s lego creation made from a complex (5 bag) set on Christmas Day.  He only called for adult help once or twice in the multi-hour endeavor.  Way to go, Max!

Dog I ~~ CJ

My brother has a gorgeous Labrador, who is about as majestic as the recumbent lion in the last post.  I couldn’t resist rendering Regal CJ on the iPad.  I did this on the long flight from Los Angeles to Japan a couple of months ago.  Couldn’t sleep so I figured I’d do something productive instead.

It’s Giving Tuesday! Give to the OHR to Give ART to Children!

It’s Giving Tuesday!  I’ve given to the Ohr and hope you will too!

For those who haven’t heard of this relatively new movement, it’s a day focused on charitable giving, coinciding with the season of thanksgiving.  One of my main charities is Biloxi, Mississippi’s Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, which Dad supported with the sweat of his brow (and, yes, coins) for more than a decade.  The Ohr provides an array of arts-focused education to children, as well as adults in the community.  And its exhibits and architecture uniquely enrich the Gulf Coast.  Please consider contributing today!  Thanks!

And another father-son in the water!  What’s sweeter to behold than a parent and child at play?

Irrational Exuberance ~~ Painted Mushrooms? Or Toadstools?

OK.  So, the leeks turned out well, aaaannnndddd ~~~~ I got sassy & decided to paint some portobello mushrooms the next day.

Bad idea!  There’s not much ‘there’ there.  Dull colors & shapes, arranged (by me) in an overly simplistic composition.  Certain artists could make a good painting out of such drab components (Morandi?), but my first effort at ‘shrooms falls short.

Painting Leeks at Home in the Aftermath of Artin Workshop!

I was so pumped up after Wendy Artin’s workshop that, after a day of R&R, I pulled out my paints and a couple of elderly leeks from the fridge and painted another watercolor in the manner we had been practicing during the workshop.  Here it is.

Leeks at Home. Watercolor on Paper.

I was tickled that it turned out nicely.  Maybe I’ll have to do more!

New iPad Images: Buzz Lightyear and Friend

I haven’t done much iPad painting over the last year (carpal tunnel issues), but every now and then I see a subject that’s compelling enough so I can’t resist.  These two pieces were inspired by grandson Max’s toys:  Buzz Lightyear (perched on Max’s dresser) and a red robot whose name I never got.  Do you know who he is??

As with all of my iPad art, fine quality prints are available at reasonable prices.
